Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. (HAB. 3:2)

This study is an invitation to the people of God to band together and sow for a great awakening. Not a passing revival, or a spiritual renewal, or a refreshing, but a full-scale awakening. It’s time for us to recognize that as essential as our institutions of governing, education, and healing are to our world, they lack even the combined capacity to provide for the desperate needs all around us. Only a broadscale, comprehensive awakening to the mercy, grace, and all-powerful love of God can ever hope to make the difference needed in our world today.

This is not a short-term project. It’s time for the people of God to take the long view, calculate our coordinates, and buckle in for what may be decades of co-laboring. We have harvested where we have not sown. It is time to sow where we may never personally harvest. We will be delighted to see a full-scale great awakening in our day, but we will be content to sow the seed for the rest of our days with the sure confidence of unfathomable blessings for the generations coming behind us. The timetable does not belong to us, but to the sovereign God and Father of our Lord, Jesus Christ. In the eighteenth century, a band of Moravians launched an effort to sow for a great awakening in the small village of Herrnhut, Germany. The prayer meeting went on for one hundred years before giving birth to what today is considered the modern missionary movement, which evangelized the entire Western world.

We live in such a historical moment now. May it be said of us years hence, “They heard the call. They put their hand to the plow. And they never looked back.”

It’s time to band together again. The time has come to sow for a great awakening.

PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER
Come Holy Spirit and interpret to me this invitation to sow for a great awakening. Confirm in my deepest soul the urgency of the world’s need for you. Bring me to new awareness of my own desperate need for you. I freely yield myself to you as a willing vessel to be made an agent of awakening for the glory of your name. Amen.
