WC#3: God Welcomes Seekers!

Study Guides

What’s Christmas All About? God Welcomes Seekers!

Think about life:

  • How long will you look to find something before you give up?

  • What is the longest time you searched for something before you finally found it?

  • When you’re searching for something is it easy for you to ask for help or do you usually try to go it alone?

  • When people in our culture search for happiness, what paths do they usually try?

Digging Deeper into Scripture:

  • Read Matthew 2:1-2

    • What do we know about the wise men? What don’t we know about the wise men?

    • What are the wise men searching for? What do you think motivated them?

    • What has happened in our life that caused you to be highly motivated to seek God?

    • What can get in the way of us seeking God that we need to push away or maneuver around?

  • Read Matthew 2:3-6

    • What did King Herod know about the newborn King of the Jews that the wise men did not? What does it mean that Jesus was born in Bethlehem?

    • What does it look like to you for a Messiah to be a shepherd for the people?

    • What does it mean that Jesus is a shepherd for us today? And why sometimes do we resist having a shepherd?

    • Share a story about a situation which, looking back, you now understand that Jesus was your shepherd?

  • Read Matthew 2:7-8

    • How does Herod’s word reveal that he is a “fake seeker” of the Messiah?

  • Matthew 2:9-11

    • What emotion did the wise men experience when they found what they were searching for? Why?

    • What does their behavior toward the toddle Jesus tell you about how serious they were about their search?

    • When we seek and find God in Jesus Christ, what is our response?
