(EASTER SUNDAY) IT REALLY HAPPENED!

Think about life:

  • What are the first words that come to your mind when you hear the word “Easter”?

  • What are the first words that come to you mind when you hear “Jesus is risen from the dead”?

  • What events in your life have taken you by surprise?

  • What events in your life have taken you awhile to get over the shock and adjust to a new reality?

  • If you’ve ever been through a time in life when you expected the worst to happen, what was it like for you?

Digging Deeper into Scripture:

  • Read Mark 16:1-8

    • Did you notice anything you hadn’t noticed before?

    • What were the women prepared to do and what did they find instead?

    • Why do you think they reacted the way they did?

    • The women’s reaction is what can be called “death thinking”, expecting and accepting the worst and expecting that nothing can change. “Resurrection thinking”, on the other hand, understand that God can and does intervene in our lives for His will.

    • What events in life lead us into “death thinking”?

    • What events in life lead us into “resurrection thinking”?

    • Is there an area of your life in which God is inviting you into “resurrection thinking”?

  • Read Ephesians 1:19-23

    • Reread Eph. 1:19-20.

    • Think about the challenges and struggles you face. How will you face them if you believe you must handle things all on your own? How will you face them if you understand that God’s resurrection power is at work in and through you?

  • Read 2 Cor. 1:8-11

    • How honest was Paul about the pressures he faced? What did those pressures force him to do?

    • What does it look like when the pressures of life cause us to pull away from God?

    • What does it look like when the pressures of life cause us to pull close to God and trust his resurrection power?
