THE CHURCH MOVES OUT! Conclusion – The Mission Has Cornerstone!

Think about church:

  • When you think of the word “missionary”, what comes to mind? What do missionaries do? Which missionaries have you most admired?

  • What do you think about the following statements:

    • Everyone who follows Jesus is a missionary in their current context.

    • If a church is not focused on God’s mission it is dead.

    • It’s the pastor’s job to train people to be missionaries in their own setting.

  • What are the obstacles that get in the way of you understanding yourself as a missionary for Jesus

  • What can help you overcome those obstacles?

Digging Deeper into Scripture:

  • Read Genesis 12:1-3

    • What promises did God make to Abram?

    • Note that in verse 2 and 3 God promises to bless Abram so that he and his family can bless others. How would it change your life and the life of your family if each morning you prayed, “God, give us the opportunity to bless someone today” – and each evening you went around the table and shared how you were able to bless someone during the day?

    • What happens to us when we try to keep God’s blessing to ourselves?

    • What happens when we pass on God’s blessing to others?

  • Read Matthew 9:35 through 10:1

    • When Jesus looked at the people of his day, how did he see them? (9:35-36)

    • Do we see the people in our day the same?

    • What did Jesus ask the disciples to pray for? (9:37-38)

    • Who was the answer to their prayer for more workers? (10:1)

    • What signs do you see that we are in a time when the harvest is great?

    • What are the obstacles that keep us from being a harvest worker?

    • What one step can we take toward being a harvest worker?

  • Read Revelation 7:9-10

    • What people group, language group or economic group is excluded from being welcomed into God’s family through Jesus Christ?

    • Are there people or types of people that we tend to avoid that God is inviting into His family?

  • Read Matthew 28:18-20

    • React to the following statements:

      • If we are not joining Jesus in His mission to bring people into God’s family we are missing out on being with Jesus.

      • While we often think of Jesus saving us from something – sin, death, the devil – Jesus is saving us for something – joining Him in His mission.
