THE CHURCH MOVES OUT! #8 – The Mission Travels! (Acts 13-14)

Think about church:

  • What have been your favorite vacations and why?

  • For those who have traveled on vacations in the US how many states have you visited? Did you discover anything that surprised you?

  • In your traveling have you met some people that led to enjoyable conversation?

  • Have you ever been part of a team on a mission trip?

    • What did you expect it would be like and what was it really like?

    • What did you learn about God, yourself, and the people you traveled to help?

    • Did going on a mission trip affect how you lived once you returned home?

  • Are you a person that enjoys risk and adventure or a person that prefers safety and routine? How does that play into how you join God on His mission in our city?

Digging Deeper into Scripture:

  • Read Acts 13:1-3

    • What is the evidence that the church in Antioch was seriously seeking God’s will?

    • On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, to what degree are you seeking God’s leading in how He wants to us you in His mission?

    • What would it look like to seek God’s leading at a level 10?

  • Read Acts 13:13-16

    • How did Paul end up talking in the synagogue about Jesus?

    • Have you ever been asked a spiritual question? Did you approach it as an open door?

  • Read Acts 13:17-42

    • Was Paul’s message about Jesus good news or bad news?

    • How was the message received by those listening?

    • Did everyone believe in Jesus as the Messiah?

    • When we share our faith with people, what are the potential reactions?

    • As we pray for a family member or friend to come to Christ, how long do we expect it to take?

    • What are different ways we can respond to people who say, “Not interested”.

  • Read Acts 13:44-52

    • What happened when the Jews rejected the message about Jesus?

    • How must have felt for Paul to have to stop sharing Jesus with his own people?

    • Paul was willing to take negative consequences of sharing Jesus. Are we? What might those consequences look like in our lives?

From Sunday’s message:

  • Pastor Steve shared the story of a woman at Cornerstone who is involved in a ministry to the women dancers at the South Fork Club, and he interviewed Eric Sutton, one of the Pastor’s at the Re*Creation Center on the Pine Ridge Reservation. What struck you?

Daily Scripture Readings about the Mission Spreading Person to Person:

  • Read Acts 15 a number of times. What did the church have to go through to decide to share the message of Jesus with “outsiders”? (Non-jews)
