HOW REAL LIFE CHANGE HAPPENS!

Think about life:

  • What are some of the most challenging life changes for people to make?

  • What are common obstacles that get in the way of making a real life change?

  • Leaving out church, Scripture, Holy Spirit – what resources to people often depend on to try to make a real life change?

  • Do you know people who have given up trying to make a life change? Why have they given up?

  • On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being “most often”, rate the following in terms of what you have heard most often in the church:

    • ___ Salvation in Jesus is about being forgiven for our sins.

    • ___ Salvation in Jesus is about being saved from hell and going to heaven.

    • ___ Salvation in Jesus is about finding peace of mind.

    • ___ Salvation in Jesus is about finding contentment in this life.

    • ___ Salvation in Jesus is about having our lives transformed by God.

  • Think about a person you know that has had real life change happen because of Jesus Christ. Where were they and where are they now? From you observation, how did that change happen?

  • Are there thing in your life that need change?

Digging Deeper into Scripture:

  • Read Galatians 6:15

    • Note: Paul writes these words to counter certain Jewish believers who were teaching that the main point in following Jesus is keeping Jewish ceremonies and rituals. Read Galatians 6:15 again. Instead of religious duties, what does Paul say is the main point of following Jesus?

    • What things in people’s lives need to be transformed into a new creation?

    • Talk about what would be the differences between a church that is focused on religious duty, ceremony and ritual vs. a church focused on having people’s lives transformed into a new creation?

  • Read Romans 6:10-11

    • What happens when we are dead to God and alive to sin?

    • What do you think it means that Jesus died to break the power of sin?

    • What happens when we are dead to sin and alive to God?

  • Talk through the “How Real Life Change Happens” cross illustration.
