Getting Ready!

#1 – Taking full advantage of God’s work in our lives

Think about life:

  • What is the most extensive “getting ready for something” process you’ve ever gone through? What did you have to do or change? What did it cost you? Was it worth it?

  • What kind of things prevent or derail you from getting ready for a situation? Is there a common theme in your life that gets in the way of getting ready?

Exploring Scripture:

  • Read Mt. 13:1-9, 18-23

    • What is the advantage in teaching using a story?

    • List the different types of spiritual soils. Which one have you most often experienced in your life?

    • What soil would you say you are now?

    • What has helped you move from footpath, shallow, or thorny soil to good soil?

    • Are there certain steps you need to take right now?

    • My goal is to have God give me a comfortable life” or “My goal is for God to make me good soil for His Word to me”. Talk about how different these two goals are and how they affect how we approach challenges, hardship and suffering.

  • Read Mt. 13:10-17

    • What is confusing about this passage?

    • How does it fit in with God the Father’s plan for the Son?

    • When we are able to hear God’s word to us, should we feel proud or thankful? Why?

  • Read James 1:2-4

    • How does the Apostle Paul say God can use troubles in our live for the benefit of our faith in Jesus Christ?

    • Through what “trouble” in your life has God taught you the most?

    • Did what you learn follow the pattern in verses 3-4 that James laid out?
